FACTORY : Behind the Scenes…
It’s always fun to see what goes on behind closed doors and how things are made. So we thought it would be nice to give you a peek into our Praxis Factory and see some of our products make their way down the production line. It takes a passionate team to make the magic happen so hope you enjoy.
- “Punching out Blanks” We use a great deal of aluminum, and much of it is for our cold forged chain rings. One of the first steps is starting with high grade 7000 series alloy and “punch out” the blank for a specific ring. Here you see the starting plate aluminum, and then next to it the remains after we punch out the basic shape/tooth count for a ring. In one massive strike we punch out a blank. The machine is huge as we have to punch through 5mm plates for our rings.

2. “Forging M30 Spindles” One of the things that put us on the map years ago was our forging ability. An example is our M30 spindle. It starts its life as a simple small tube of aluminum, and in one hit, we forge in about 95% of the features and critical measurements. At that point our Precision Lab (located right next to the mfg. line) is constantly pulling samples from the production and doing Quality Assurance and other inspection checks throughout the whole manufacturing process.

3. “Cranks” Chain rings… bolts…. torque… crank assembly and packing… it’s all done in our Praxis Factory. With all the different rings, spiders, bolts and crank arms…it’s a marvel of organization to make sure everything goes together smoothly and precisely. So many caring and skilled hands are on our products before they ends up at the bike shop or on your bike.

4. “PRINT & FINISH” Chain rings… bolts…. torque… crank assembly and packing… it’s all done in our Praxis Factory. With all the different rings, spiders, bolts and crank arms…it’s a marvel of organization to make sure everything goes together smoothly and precisely. So many caring and skilled hands are on our products before they ends up at the bike shop or on your bike.

5. “IN-HOUSE CARBON” Inside the factory behind a secret sliding door is our in-house carbon team. Years in the making, Praxis built out our own carbon lab and pioneered a unique process for our cranks. Our C.R.A.F.T. hybrid process of RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) combined with Filament Winding allowed us to create some of the lightest and most dependable carbon cranks in the industry. Oh, and by the way, inside each carbon crank is an RFID memory chip holding all the detailed info from manufacturing date, ingredients, carbon layup schedule and also where each production is being shipped to.
